Overview

Have you overcome an addiction with drugs / alcohol?  Are you thinking about how you can now volunteer to help others experiencing those difficulties?

Responsibilities

Change Grow Live specialises in The Drug and Alcohol Services, and we are looking for people who have had these experiences in their pasts, to join our team!

Our Peer Support Services offer volunteering opportunities to people who have lived experience of these issues, where you can draw from your own experience and use this to support others who are currently struggling. Our wider team consists of 2 unique teams:

  • Working with people who are in treatment for Drug or Alcohol addiction
  • Working with those whose Drug and Alcohol addiction leads to offending

In return for your volunteering, we offer high levels of support to all our Peer Mentors by allocating you with your own supervisor, equipping you with the tools and knowledge to carry out your role through our gold standard training which comes with a qualification, ongoing training experiences with access to Change Grow Lives Learning and Development platform, and support to sustain your own recoveries and achieve your goals. By volunteering with us you will gain valuable experience and skills, as well as making a real difference.

With this role you’ll be working as part of the Recovery Service peer mentoring team in Brighton and Hove.  Your role will be allocated to the best suited team depending on your lived experience. Following recruitment and training, you would then start working with people who are currently struggling with these experiences.

Clients are referred to our Service because they would like support from someone who has been there before, we match them to a suitable Peer Mentor.  Peer Mentors will work with clients on a 1:1 outreach basis, as added support to their existing support network.  Whether you’re talking about goals in a coffee shop, helping people get to appointments, going for walks or researching job opportunities together, no two sessions will be the same. We treat everyone as an individual, so having lived experience, being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.

As a Peer Mentor, we can tailor your role to suit your abilities, confidence, and experience.  You can do as much or as little as you like, and we would always make sure you are comfortable in carrying out your role.

This is what one of our Volunteer Mentors had to say: “I like the team spirit, that we all bring something different, and we always put the people who use our service first”.

Our values are to be compassionate, open, and bold. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
