Overview

It’s often overwhelming for the people we support to make changes in their lives. You can help by donating your time as a volunteer mentor.

Responsibilities

With this role you’ll be working as part of Connect London team, based across London.

The team supports local people with a recent history of offending to get them back into the community and help them get over any barriers they may be facing. A lot of our clients lack confidence, have low self-esteem, lead chaotic lives and have little or no support from family and friends.

Don’t you think they should have someone on their side?

In this role you will be supporting the people who use our services by offering them one-to-one support in the community.

Whether you’re talking about goals in a coffee shop, or researching job opportunities together in a library no two sessions will be the same. We treat everyone as individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.

Helping people to take that next step can be a challenge, so in return for your time we will offer you comprehensive training and will ensure that you have someone at the other end of the phone for day-to-day advice and guidance. We will also make sure you have a named supervisor, who you will meet up with regularly.

By volunteering with us you will  gain valuable experience and skills, as well as making a real difference.

The role of a Volunteer Mentor:

  • Making positive impact on the life of potentially vulnerable and/or socially excluded individuals.
  • Building a pro-active, encouraging relationship
  • Providing support so that your mentee can identify and achieve their personal goals
  • Helping someone to integrate back into the community
  • Being a listening ear during difficult times your mentee maybe facing

Our values are to be compassionate, open and bold. If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you so click apply.
