Volunteering in Substance Misuse Services

Overview

Wirral Ways provides free, confidential support for people affected by drugs, alcohol, and gambling across Wirral. We work with individuals, families, and communities to improve health, wellbeing, and recovery, meeting people where they are and supporting them at their own pace.

Whether you are looking for advice, treatment, harm reduction support, or just someone to talk to, we are here to help.

We are a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for adults, young adults, families, carers and affected others across the Wirral. We provide a non-judgemental service, with qualified, experienced staff and volunteers who offer support in health & wellbeing and substance misuse. We can talk to you in several supportive environments, all which have a friendly atmosphere, and provide you with information to help you reduce your substance misuse or to become abstinent.

We are part of Change Grow Live, a national health and social care charity which provides a range of treatment, recovery, and support services for those who have concerns about their drug or alcohol use.

Responsibilities

Our mission is to help people change the direction of their lives, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential. Volunteers are essential to Wirral Ways, bringing valuable skills, for some lived experience, and passion that strengthen our teams, improve outcomes, help us break down barriers and support meaningful change for the people we support. We are committed to valuing, supporting, and developing our volunteers.

At Wirral Ways we believe training is a great way to engage and connect with people who use our services. We also consider that having a well-trained workforce supports us to deliver the best possible outcomes. We offer a wide range of training programmes, which provide varied outcomes to learners.

As a Volunteer Trainer, you will be helping people to complete training to help them access volunteering opportunities within services. This is often an enormous step in the journey of Wirral Ways learners, especially those who have previously struggled in traditional learning settings. You will be in a role which will create genuine and powerful change.

There may also be the opportunity to support training delivered in the community to local stakeholders, such as partner agencies who are working with people who use our services.

We will provide you with the training needed to deliver the courses we offer. This should put you in a good position if you are seeking to explore a career in training or education.

You will be working alongside the Volunteer Lead in the promotion, preparation and delivery of learning. You will need to help learners to identify any support needs they have and help address these. You will also have a significant role to play in reviewing learners progress and providing developmental feedback, which can in some courses include marking work they contribute. Finally, you will have the opportunity to help us shape how we deliver learning by contributing to the review of our materials.

If you have any questions on this opportunity that you would like to talk through please contact us using the below details:
