Volunteering in Substance Misuse Services

Overview

We are a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for adults, young adults, families, carers and affected others across the Wirral. We provide a non-judgemental service, with qualified, experienced staff and volunteers who offer support in health & wellbeing and substance misuse. We can talk to you in several supportive environments, all which have a friendly atmosphere, and provide you with information to help you reduce your substance misuse or to become abstinent.

We are part of Change Grow Live, a national health and social care charity which provides a range of treatment, recovery, and support services for those who have concerns about their drug or alcohol use.

Volunteers make an enormous contribution to our work at Change Grow Live.

Last year over 1400 volunteers donated over a quarter of million hours of their time to our organisation.

Would you like to join our growing team of volunteers, and make a real difference?

Responsibilities

Our mission is to help people change the direction of their lives, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential. Volunteers are essential to Change Grow Live, bringing valuable skills, for some lived experience, and passion that strengthen our teams, improve outcomes, help us break down barriers and support meaningful change for the people we support. We are committed to valuing, supporting, and developing our volunteers.

As an Activity and Recovery Events volunteer you will play a key role in proving a safe space for people who use our services to get together, connect and have fun. This a new and exciting opportunity for someone to develop our social activity programme. You will take a lead in organising, promoting, and facilitating fun recovery focused activities like bingo, movie nights and group walks.

You will be responding to the needs of our service, including feedback from people who use it, looking at what new activities we could develop to strengthen and enhance the opportunities on offer to the people that access our service.

Volunteers contribute to Change Grow Live in a variety of ways. From Admin Volunteers to Service User Reps, from Peer Mentors to Healthcare Support Volunteers, from Independent Visitors to Community Mentors each volunteer brings a unique set of skills and talents. We are incredibly grateful for all that volunteers do to support our service users.

If there isn’t a specific volunteering role listed for the service in your area, or have a skill you would like to donate to us you can use this listing to express your interest.

Most of our volunteer opportunities don’t need any special qualifications. We’ll make sure you get all the training and support you need. All we ask is that you're kind, open-minded and passionate about supporting people.

Everyone is welcome at Change Grow Live. As a volunteer you will be treated with respect and accepted for who you are. You don’t need to have personal experience of drug and alcohol recovery to get involved.
