Overview

Purpose of role:

It’s often overwhelming for the people we support to make changes in their lives, as a Peer mentor volunteer you will be using your own lived experience or knowledge of recovery to help others and demonstrate change is possible

You will be working alongside the recovery coordinators and other staff within the service to promote recovery and support service users, guiding them to achieve their goals and build recovery capital. This can include encouraging and reminding them to attend a group or appointment, helping them to complete work that will support their recovery and offering them guidance and support. You will be advising service users about their options and informing them of Change Grow Live services that are available to them within your identified site. You will also be offering them appropriate, knowledge, advice, and information to enable them to keep themselves safe. You will be a positive role model to the service users motivating, encouraging, and inspiring them to reach their potential.

A key part of the role will be to take part in reception and greeting duties, this will include promoting groups to service users, reminding them of up-and-coming sessions and engaging with those who do not attend.

You will be provided with all the skills, training and support you will need to undertake the role.

Responsibilities

 

Key Activities:

 

  • Promote and encourage service users to attend groups one to one appointments and engage in recovery support
  • Encourage service users to attend Change Grow Live meetings/groups/appointments
  • Promote and support events and activities
  • Promote and support service user involvement, taking a lead on gathering feedback and completing surveys
  • Provide confidential, easily accessible, non-judgmental advice around substance misuse, safer injecting, overdose and what to do in an emergency
  • Promote the use of Naloxone

In carrying out the above duties the post holder will:

  • To help Change Grow Live fulfil its role in offering the best service to our clients.
  • To perform your Peer mentor role to the best of your ability.
  • To follow the Change Grow Live’s procedures and standards, including health and safety and equal opportunities, in relation to our staff, volunteers and clients.
  • To maintain the confidential information of Change Grow Live and of our clients; adhering to Change Grow Live’s policies and procedures
