Volunteering in Substance Misuse Services

Overview

Making the decision to enter treatment, and as part of that, to benefit from group activities and interactions can present a challenge for the people we support. You can make a difference.

As a Group Support Volunteer with Change Grow Live, working at one, or both of our Nottingham City venues, you will work with people who use our services, helping them get to where they want to be.

Responsibilities

We are seeking volunteer(s) to provide support for our groups programme, which currently runs on Tuesdays at 2 King Street – Nottingham City centre, and Wednesday afternoons at the Probation Building – Canal St, Nottingham City. The groups are themed on foundations of recovery and recovery capital.

You will participate in preparation for the groups, administration of them, and facilitation of the material.

It would be an advantage to have some knowledge of substance misuse, the ethics and techniques involved and methodology of recovery.

You will gain confidence and experience in facilitating groups, knowledge of pathways and approaches to recovery, plus a rewarding experience as participant's Change, Grow and Live.

You will need a level of computer literacy sufficient to handle emails, complete online training, and use our patient records system.

Whilst your volunteering time will be spent in the city centre, there may be occasions when you will need to travel to the nearest parent 'Hub' - which is at Hucknall. It is likely that induction training may be held at Hucknall, and you should be able to use public, or your own transport, to attend. Completion of both our online learning and classroom induction phases is necessary prior to deployment in the workplace.

All volunteering expenses are reimbursed.

We plan to hold value-based discussions with suitable applicants one to two weeks after the closing date. If you are unavailable during this period, please make reference to it in your application and identify when you are likely to be available again.

The nature of the role necessitates a Disclosure and Barring Service criminal records and barring check at an enhanced level, for this you will need three forms of suitable identity documents and a provable address history of five years.

It would be advantageous to have some familiarity with the geographic area and services in the vicinity of where you are applying to volunteer in.

Closing Date

3/1/2025
