Volunteering in Substance Misuse Services

Overview

As a detox and rehab support volunteer, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of the people we support, by helping to develop personal, flexible, and realistic support packages needed to make meaningful changes.  Your role will focus on developing strength-based detox and rehab plans, providing information, and supporting individuals to access inpatient detox or residential rehabilitation.

You will work closely with the detox and rehab recovery worker and the wider multi-disciplinary team across Northamptonshire, to ensure the right people are given the right opportunity. As part of this role, you will visit various rehabilitation Centre’s and detox units and accompany vulnerable clients to attend assessments and admissions, actively encouraging them to participate throughout their treatment journey. This role will require networking with all staff to ensure the provision of excellent service to individuals seeking rehabilitation and detox.

Ideally, we would like someone with lived experience of going to detox and/or rehab to tell their story and share their experience with potential new candidates. If you think you meet the criteria, please get in touch as we would love to hear from you.

Full training and lots of upskilling opportunities will be provided.

Responsibilities

Key Activities:

  • Positively promote the use of residential services as a key treatment option for all, as opposed to ‘last resort’ or ‘earning a right’ to an opportunity.
  • Support the recovery worker to manage the detox and rehab pathway and help plan accordingly.
  • Capture feedback and contact rehabs asking about criteria and waiting times
  • Work closely within a multi-disciplinary team and framework to help us deliver best practice (training opportunities provided)
  • Attend various Care Quality Commission (CQC) sites around the UK to support vulnerable clients attend important appointments.
  • Support staff to complete the referrals for clients deemed appropriate for the detox and rehab pathway.
  • Help prepare service users ready for rehab and detox; this will include co-facilitate focus groups and delivering 1:1 prep work (training and lots of shadowing opportunities will be provided)
  • Signpost family members to partnership agencies so they have their needs met.
