Overview

CGL Harm Reduction Peer Educators are a great community asset and will complement the existing provision of overdose awareness, Injecting equipment and naloxone training. Under the scheme, Harm Reduction Peer Educators (HRPE) will make direct supplies of naloxone and Injecting equipment to individuals they have trained/educated using the CGL Supply Framework.

Our Harm Reduction Peer educators are recruited from the community and have a history of lived or living experience of using drugs, but in some cases, they are family members who have lost a sibling to an overdose.

This project started following the high death drug death rate in Scotland, and as Harm Reduction Peer Educators at Change Grow Live our main aim is to make a difference in our communities by educating others in harm reduction, overdose awareness, and reducing drug deaths.

With this role you’ll be working as part of Harm Reduction Peer Educator project, based in Edinburgh.

Responsibilities

We aim to train the peers up to be able to be competent within this project, so we can reach as many people as possible in the community to educate them in harm reduction and overdose awareness along with how to administer naloxone in the case of an overdose.

No two days are the same and we treat every person who we come into contact with in the communities as an individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.

We will support you in this volunteering role by ensuring that you receive regular supervision, and have someone on site who you can approach for day-to-day advice and guidance. In return for the time you give you will receive valuable training and gain experience and skills. You’ll be making a real difference too.

This is what one of our Volunteers had to say: “CGL gave me the opportunity to give back to my community and in the process I became confident, built my self esteem, and had a purpose in my life”.

Our values are to be compassionate, open and bold. If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you so click apply.
